MIDC has developed an industrial area on 168.80 hectares of land at Shirala. The land came into MIDC possession in 1988 and developmental work began during the same year. The industrial area has fully developed as a growth center with all infrastructural facilities being provided.
Infrastructure
Water
Water is drawn from river Morna, 7 km from the industrial area, and taken through 200 mm diameter MS Pipeline. A proposed permanent water supply scheme has been worked out and an ESR of capacity 25 cum already constructed.
Roads
The main roads in the area have 45 m land width and two lanes; the internal roads have land width of 20 and 25 m and two lanes. All main and internal roads leading to the plots are asphalted. Streetlights are erected on the roads.
Power
MSEB provides power supply through a substation of capacities 33 KV and 132 KV; it is located outside the industrial area. There are two incoming transformers of 5 MVA.
Telecommunication Facility / Connectivity
An electronic telephone exchange, with 2,000 lines, is operating at Shirala town. Optional ISDN facility and telephones will be made available shortly. Telephones will be available shortly. The exchange is connected to the main telephone exchange of Sangli city.
